Edeltraud Koch won a bronze medal in the 100 m butterfly at the 1970 Barcelona European Championships. She was then selected for the 1972 München Summer Games, but was eliminated in the semi-finals of this event. She was also a member of the bronze medal-winning West German 4x100 medley relay squad, but swam only in the heats.
