Biography

West German swimmer Svenja Schlicht was a backstroke specialist. She won the silver medal with the 4x100 medley relay squad and finished sixth in both the 100 and 200 metres backstroke at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Four years later at Seoul, she finished seventh with the relay and missed the finals of 100 metres backstroke and 200 metres individual medley. She placed eighth in the 200 metres backstroke.

At the 1991 World Championships, Schlicht won the gold medal with the 4x200 metres freestyle relay squad, despite only swimming in the heats. With the 4x100 medley relay squad she won the bronze medal. At European Championships she won one silver and five bronze medals. Domestically, Schlicht won 24 national titles in different events. By profession, she was a trained bank clerk. After her marriage she emigrated to Australia.
