As the West German 100 m breaststroke champion, Dagmar Sierck qualified for the 1972 München Olympics, but was eliminated in the heats. She was also expected to take part in the medley relay, but became ill. Sierck later regularly competed in senior international championships.
Sierck became a graduated sports teacher under her married name Hilbig. She was also very active as a sports administrator with the Lower Saxony Regional Swimming Federation, and was engaged as a swimming coach and international referee. She died in 2015 after a long and severe illness.
