At Los Angeles in 1932 Heiko Schwartz was a member of the German team that came in second and won a silver medal behind Hungary, also winning silver medals at the 1931 and 1934 European Championships. In 1936, he competed in the 100 metre freestyle but failed to qualify from the heats. He also won a swimming medal in the 4x200 free relay at the 1934 Europeans. Representing Poseidon Köln, Schwartz was 1931 German Champion in the 4x100 and 4x200 freestyle relays.
