German freestyle swimmer Peter Sitt won a bronze medal with the West German 4x200 metres freestyle relay squad at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, although he only swam in the heats. With the 4x100 freestyle relay, he finished sixth. Four years later at Barcelona, Sitt was a member of the re-unified German 4x200 metres freestyle relay team that finished an unfortunate fourth, beaten by the US four by only 0.35 seconds.
At the 1991 World Championships, Sitt won a gold and a silver medal with both relays. He also won two relay gold and two silver medals at the 1987 and 1989 European Championships. Domestically, Sitt won the 200 freestyle national title in 1989, and 100 free the following year.
In 2013, Sitt became a member of the Board of Trustees of Deutsche Sporthilfe. After his active sports career, he worked as a self-employed insurance broker.
