West German swimmer Norbert Verweyen competed in the 200 m backstroke at the 1972 München Olympics, but was eliminated in the heats. From 1970-72 he was the national champion in this event. Verweyen trained as an optician, but later changed to the real estate business. He emigrated to Thailand, where he became CEO of a real estate company on the island of Koh Samui. His wife Ananya Klongkaew was murdered in 2007.
