Biography

Ella Molnár began her swimming career in her hometown of Baja, and in the 1920s won national titles at both 200 and 400 metres breaststroke. In 1923, her best result in the 100 breast was just 0.2 seconds outside the world record. When she competed at the 1924 Paris Olympics, Molnár became Hungary’s first female Olympic swimmer. In 1928 she moved to the United States, where she continued her swimming career, and also ran a swimming school and worked as a coach.

Personal Best: 200m breaststroke – 3:28,4 (1927).
