Ödön Toldi

Ödön Toldi’s swimming career started with FTC in 1904. Between 1908-14, he swam for MTK and MAFC, and also for German, Austrian and English clubs. He was Hungarian 200 yard breaststroke champion three times, in 1909-11. Toldi set three national 100 metre records, and his 1910 time of 1:21.8 was a world record, as was his 200 yard record of 2:39.6 in 1911. This record stood for 10 years.

At the 1908 Summer Olympic Games, at the age of 15, he finished a surprising fourth (3:15.2). In World War I, he was honoured with a Gold Medal of Merit. Between 1921-23, he lived in Wien (Vienna), then in Praha, and later moved to Hungary and worked as director of the rayon factory in Mosonmagyaróvár. After World War II, he moved to Great Britain, where he died in 1966.
