Ferenc Vörös began his swimming career in 1936 with MUE. After World War II Vörös was an athlete of MMUE, Neményi Madisz, and then Csepeli Vasas, competing mostly in long-distance swimming events. His first major success came in 1938 when he won the Balaton Championship. In 1939 Vörös won the Hungarian championship title in 1,500 metres and river swimming. These championship titles were followed by nine more.
Vörös competed for the Hungarian national team between 1945 and 1950. In 1947 he finished second in the 1,500 metres at the Monte Carlo European Championships and won the Balkan Championships. The following year he competed at the London Olympics but failed to reach the final in the 1,500 metres. Outside of swimming Vörös learned the trade of a machine fitter at the Ganz factory, before working as a police officer after World War II.
