Biography

Mara Sacchi was an Italian swimmer who competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics when she was only 15-years-old, failing to get past the 100 freestyle heats, although she helped Italy finish eighth in the 4x100 freestyle relay. She competed at the 1966 European Championships and in 1967 won a silver medal in the 100 metre freestyle at the Mediterranean Games.

Sacchi set Italian records in the 100 and 200 metre freestyles, the first in 1968 with 1:02.30, and the second in 1969 with 2:17.50, both times narrowly improving records set by Novella Calligaris. After her competitive career Sacchi began coaching Genova Nuoto and later became the club president.
