Guido Elmi started swimming in Milano when he was 16 and his skills were immediately noticed at Rari Nantes, the first club in Milano dedicated exclusively to swimming. Elmi began competing in the 200 freestyle, obtaining solid results at the Italian Championships and the Mediterranean Games.
At the Olympics he competed only with the 4x200 freestyle relay that did not reach the final. That Olympic experience was the only one for Elmi who soon after unfortunately had to leave competitive swimming to work full-time due to the death of his father.
Guido Elmi never gave up swimming, however, continuing all his life to grind laps in that Cozzi pool where he had entered as a boy and left as a champion. And for this reason Milanosport decided to post, one year after his death, a plaque that linked the history of the facility to Elmi’s legacy.
