Over 200 metres he won six Italian titles (1968, 1970-74) and was runner-up in 1967.
With the national team Tozzi made his Six Nations début in Dortmund in September 1967. He was a semi-finalist in the 200 butterfly at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and won three medals (one silver and two bronze) at the 1971 Mediterranean Games.
