Born into poverty, Malang Baloch began practising boxing when he was a teenager. Despite the lack of facilities, Baloch trained hard, excelled as a junior, and went on to win in the welterweight final at the 1970 national games in Karachi. Now part of the Pakistan boxing team, he toured Manila and Iran in the early 1970s, before appearing at the 1972 München Olympics. At the Games he fought in the light-welterweight class but lost his first bout to Graham Moughton (GBR). Baloch competed for a few more years, including representing Pakistan at the 1974 Asian Games, before retiring and becoming a coach.
