A Pakhtun by origin, Muhammad Khan resided in Lyari, Pakistan, where he tried to make the 1948 Olympic team as a boxer, while representing the Azad Muslim Boxing Club, but missed out in the trials. He did make the 1952 team and won one match in Helsinki. Khan retired from boxing in 1953 and moved to England. Khan trained in Karachi under Ali Mohammad Qambrani. He lived in England the rest of his life, although he did return to his native country for visits, but he never worked in boxing again, either as a coach or administrator.
