Boxer Usman Ullah Khan had his greatest moment on the international scene as light-welterweight representing Pakistan at the 1994 Asian Games, where he won a silver medal after losing the final to Reynaldo Galido of the Philippines. Two years later he made his Olympic début at the 1996 Atlanta Games, but was knocked out by France’s Nordine Mouchi in the first round. In 2000, at the Sydney Olympics, he moved up to the welterweight division, but was again eliminated in his first bout, this time by Yovanny Lorenzo of the Dominican Republic. He retired from the sport in 2003, but continued to coach athletes and promote boxing nationally in Pakistan. For the two years of his life, he suffered from a brain tumor and, lacking support in his home country, travelled abroad to seek treatment, but he died in Toronto, Canada from his illness at the age of only 45.
