Biography

Ferdinand Fabra was the manager of numerous German football teams both before and after World War II, beginning with VfB Coburg in 1930. He also served as assistant manager to the German national team during the 1935-1936 season. Perhaps his most notable job, however, came when he managed the Finnish national squad from 1936-1937, including during their appearance at the 1936 Berlin Games, where Finland was eliminated by Peru 7-3 in round one. After the war, he managed Borussia Dortmund to a victory in the Premier League West in its inaugural season of 1947-1948. Following the end of his coaching and managing career in 1953, he worked as a high school teacher until his 1978 retirement. He was also skilled in chess and, after his death at the age of 101, a regional chess prize was established in his honor.
