Alfeo Grignani

Ceramic dealer Alfeo Grignani officiated in 69 Serie B matches, and a further 62 in Serie A. He made his top flight début in 1956, and that year, won the Florindo Longagnani Award for being the best novice referee in Serie A. His last match in the top division was the Cagliari-Foggia game on 20 December 1964. A year earlier, in the match between Genoa and Catania, he was involved in an ugly contest that saw a pitch invasion and fighting after Grignani awarded a dubious penalty to the away team. The match was abandoned after 76 minutes

Grignani was never included in the official list of FIFA referees, but was on a special list of “international class” officials and, as a result, acted as a linesman at the 1960 Roma Olympics. The most important European club match he refereed was the 1962 European Cup Winners’ Cup second round tie between Lausanne and Slovan Bratislava.
