Biography

Frank Lockwood served in the second Boer War with the Royal Engineers based at Chatham in Kent and during service in South Africa was mentioned in dispatches. He was still in the Engineers when he became a member of the Kent County FA, and in the 1902/03 season was a vice-president of the Association, until 1905 when he became their full-time secretary, a position he held at the time of his untimely death. Lockwood also served on the FA Council and was a member for the Amateur Cup and League Sanction Committees. Lockwood was one of the linesman for the historic Denmark versus France “A” game at the 1908 London Olympics, when a record 18 goals were scored. He died at the age of 48 following an operation for an appendicitis.
