After taking up boxing at his local YMCA when he was 13 Scotland’s Frank Hendry spent his entire life involved in the sport. In 1958 Hendry founded the St Francis Boxing Club in his hometown of Dundee and went on to become the President of the Scottish Amateur Boxing Association. Outside of Scotland Hendry worked with the British Olympic Association, was the secretary of the British Amateur Boxing Association, and became the President of the Commonwealth Amateur Boxing Association.
Hendry was the team manager for Great Britain at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. At the latter he also worked in the role of a referee and a judge in five bouts. When the Commonwealth Games were staged in Edinburgh in 1986 he was the director of boxing.
