Gianluca Cariolato was an assistant referee for Italian football. He started as a young football player, then focused on refereeing, making his début in 1991 with some matches of youth tournaments. After performing in the amateur leagues, he came to a turning point and chose a linesman career. From 2005 to December 2016 he was chosen for matches in Serie A. He officiated at the London 2012 Olympic Games and the U17 World Championships in Abu Dhabi the following year.
Cariolato was a member of the arbitration section of Legnago, working as a bank clerk in his day job. At the end of his sporting career, Cariolato remained in the football environment as a member of the Interregional Referees Commission and often visited the various Italian referees sections, imparting his knowledge to young referees.
