Biography

A former policeman, boxing referee John Henderson was the Scottish heavyweight champion in 1933. He subsequently held administrative posts with the Scottish Amateur Boxing Association and was general secretary for 25 years until 1978, the year before his death.

As a referee Henderson was regarded as one of the best in Europe, and officiated in many contests across the continent. He also officiated in several European Championships as well as the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He also acted as the British and Scotland boxing team manager at Olympics, European Championships, and British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
