Biography

Commandant J. J. Walsh was on the list of eight referees and 12 judges chosen to officiate in the final stages of the boxing competition at the 1948 Olympics. Walsh was one of the three Irish boxing officials, along with Jim Healy and Colm Gallagher, amongst the original list of 82 officials. The decision to cut the number of officials came because of a low standard of refereeing in boxing events at the Games.
