Kenny Clark

Kenny Clark played football for Duntocher Boys Club, in Dunbartonshire, but turned to refereeing as a 17-year-old after breaking a leg. He took up part-time refereeing to help fund his time as a Glasgow University law student. He completed his law degree at 21, and joined the law firm of Adair’s in Dumbarton, later becoming a partner in the company.

In 1993, at the age of 31, Clark became Scotland’s youngest Class 1 referee. He was added to the Scottish Premiership list in the 1996/97 season, and in 11 seasons took charge of 199 games. He refereed three Scottish FA Cup Finals in 2001, 2003, and 2007. Clark also officiated in the UEFA Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup, and Champions’ League qualifiers. He also refereed one FIFA World Cup qualifier, Spain’s 5-0 win over San Marino in 2005. Additionally, Clark officiated in European Championship qualifiers, and at the 1992 Olympics was used only as a linesman in five games, including the third-place play-off game between Ghana and Australia. He also ran the line at the Colombia - Spain game that saw the German referee Markus Merk send off four players, and book a further seven, including legendary referee Pep Guardiola. Clark retired from international refereeing in 2006.
