Bryce Thomson was involved with hockey, as a player, umpire, and administrator for more than 60 years. A former Scottish international trialist, he was associated with Glasgow´s Stepps Hockey Club for over 30 years. Thomson was a goalscoring winger from the early 1930´s until he stopped playing in 1952, when he turned his attention to umpiring.
An insurance inspector by profession, Thomson was a former president of the Scottish Men´s Hockey Association and was honorary president at the time of his death. Having umpired in the Home International Championship, Thomson was promoted to a Class 1 umpire by the International Hockey Federation in 1963 and he was one five UK officials at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
