Biography

The West German football team Bayern Munich won the 1975 European Cup final with a 2–0 victory against the English side Leeds United in a controversial match in Paris. Leeds fans will always blame the officiating of the French referee Michel Kitabdjian for the loss. Kitabdjian was involved in two key moments during the match; denying Leeds a penalty in the first half and disallowing a goal by Leeds in the second half. This trigged a riot by the Leeds fans resulting in a temporary halt in play and ultimately a short ban from Europe for the club. Kitabdjian also served as an international referee for FIFA for more than ten years. He officiated in multiple World Cup qualifier matches, as well as two matches at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
