Biography
Along with Rene, Rey, and Ric, Roger Fortaleza was one of four brothers who were one of the most famous boxing families in the Philippines. Roger was the only brother who did not box at the Olympic Games during the 1970s, although he did officiate in bouts at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Fortaleza won the silver medal as a bantamweight at the 1977 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur and at the 1979 ASEAN Amateur Boxing Championships. After retiring from the sport Fortaleza was a successful boxing referee, becoming the first Filipino AIBA 3-star referee-judge. He worked as a sports co-ordinator for the Philippine Sports Commission and was also the secretary-general of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines.
