Biography

Rudolf Baťa was a hockey referee and official of the Czech Football Association and Sparta Praha. He graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Brno and then started working as a designer for 26 years. Until 1977 he was a recognized ice hockey referee and worked in matches in the Top Czechoslovak league and abroad. He refereed at six World Championships and two Olympics in 1972 and 1976.

Bata then turned to football and between 1978-96 he was secretary of the Czech Football Association and a member of the UEFA Disciplinary Committee. In 1996, he accepted the offer of his favorite football club Sparta and became its official. He only retired from Sparta at the end of May 2017, a few months before his death.
