Biography

After passing his refereeing exam in 1973 Sándor Márton began officiating in matches in the Hungarian football leagues. From 1988 to 1998 Márton officiated in matches in the NB I, the top division of football in Hungary, refereeing in 91 matches and working as an assistant in more than 220 other games. In 1991 he became an assistant referee for international fixtures, working at both the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 1994 FIFA World Cup. At the latter Márton was the linesman for the quarter-final match between Bulgaria and Germany, and the semi-final game between Brazil and Sweden. Following his retirement he worked as a referee inspector for the Hungarian Football Association.
