Biography

Walter Clover had a distinguished Army career with the Leicestershire Regiment, and during his time in service was a well-known Football League referee. He also took control of five Army Cup finals, and served on the committee of the Army Football Association, being founder of their referee’s section. The highlight of his career was in running the line in the match between Great Britain and Sweden at the 1908 Olympics. When he retired from the Army, Major Clover and his wife took over the running of the Grand Hotel in South Wigston, Leicester. Clover was also a member of the Leicestershire County Council
