Auguste Mangeot was born into a family of piano makers, the son of Édouard Mangeot (1835-18989, one of the founders of the magazine Le Monde musical. Auguste wrote for this magazine and became its director. He was the brother of violinist André Louis Mangeot (1883-1970).
In 1909, Auguste Mangeot published a 124-page essay on “La Paix universelle et le désarmement militaire par l’organization de la volonté des nations” (Universal Peace and Military Disarmament through the Organization of the Will of Nations). 10 years later, he founded the École Normale de Musique de Paris with the pianist Alfred Cortot (1877-1962).
