Marianne Erismann was the only daughter of Ernst Paul Erismann and Maria Bertha Stadler; her father was a businessman in the transportation and construction industry in the canton of Ticino. Active in swimming from a young age, Erismann won her first major competitions in her teen years and was a five-time Swiss champion in the 100 metres freestyle. In 1948, Erismann became the second woman from Ticino to participate in the Olympic Games, after fellow swimmer Annie Villiger first competed in 1936. At the London Olympics, she participated in the 100 metres freestyle event but did not medal, as she finished in last place of her heat.
Following the Olympics, Erismann continued swimming into the 1950s, competing for Locarno and was later a member of Nuoto Sport Locarno where she instructed summer swimming lessons and was a member of the sport commission (women’s section). In 1954, she married Rolando Bruno, who was president of the sport commission of the Locarno Swimming Sport Society, and the couple moved to Lugano where they managed a restaurant. The marriage would soon end in divorce, and in 1961, Erismann married a chef, Johann Muttner with whom she continued to work in the restaurant industry, until his death in 1972. She later married once more, and returned to Lugano where she died in 2004 at the age of 73.
