Biography

In the late 1950s and early 1960s Swedish competitive swimmer Karin Larsson represented SK Ran in Malmö. In 1956 Larsson was selected to represent the national team at the Melbourne Olympics, swimming in the 400 metres freestyle and the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay, finishing 12th and sixth, respectively. Two years later she was part of the quartet that won bronze in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay at the European Championships in Budapest.

Larsson returned to the Olympics in 1960, swimming in three events at the Roma Games, including teaming with her younger sister Kristina in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay. Both sisters also swam in the 100 metres butterfly, with Karin placing 14th and Kristina finishing seventh. In 1961 Karin won gold in the 100 metres freestyle and silver in the 100 metres butterfly at the Summer Universiade in Sofia. Her brother Gunnar was also a noted swimmer, and won two gold medals at the 1972 Olympics.
