Emy Machnow completed her swimming career after winning a bronze medal with the Swedish freestyle relay team at the Antwerpen Olympics in 1920. She was Swedish Champion in 1913 and 1915-17 in the 100 freestyle and was the 1919 Nordic Champion. While pursuing her swimming career, Machnow studied at the then Stockholm University College of Physical Education and Sports (GCI), now the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences (GIH), from which she graduated in 1919.
