Eskil Lundahl

Swedish swimmer Eskil Lundahl finished fifth in the 4x200 freestyle relay at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. He also participated in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke with limited success. Four years later in Los Angeles, he appeared in the heats of 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke again, but did not get past the first round. At the European Championships, he won the 1927 title in the 100 backstroke and was runner-up with the 4×200 freestyle relay, and in 1926 was third in the 100 backstroke and 4×200 freestyle relay. He also held several honorary positions in the Swedish sports administration.

Lundahl graduated from the Royal Technical University in Stockholm in civil engineering in 1929, and worked for the construction department of Stockholm’s Harbor Management for some years. He also was an assistant professor at the Royal Technical University, and in 1939 joined Prof. Carl Forsell’s construction agency. As a civil engineer, Lundahl advised on swimming pools and other outdoor facilities. He then took part as an artist in the Art Competitions at the 1948 London Olympics as an architect, and with Sture Frölén, submitted a Model for “Open Air Bath for Uppsala”. The planned outdoor pool in Uppsala was the Fyrisbad on the banks of the river Fyrisån. The already existing bath, which was operated by the association Upsala Simsällskap since 1925, was finally replaced in 1959 by the construction of Frölén. Today, there is a large sports complex under the name “Fyrishov” with an indoor pool and several sports halls were created.
