Orlando Samuels competed in volleyball for Cuba at the 1972 Olympics. He was a three-time medalist in the sport at the Pan American Games, winning golds in 1971 and 1975 and a bronze in 1967. Samuels was on the national team from 1963-75. He also won titles at the 1966, 1970, and 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games, and the 1969 World Cup. Samuels later became a coach, directing the Cuban team that won the 1989 World Cup and was an assistant coach on the team that won the 1983 Universiade. He led Cuban teams in the World League events from 1991-94 and again starting in 2007.
