Gabriella Csapó-Fekete

Between 1972 and 1984 Gabriella Csapó-Fekete played in 282 matches for the Hungarian women’s volleyball team. Csapó-Fekete was the Hungarian women’s volleyball player of the year twice (1977, 1979), a two-time Olympian, and a winner of multiple medals at the European Championships. She later moved to Germany where she continued to have success as a player and coach.

Csapó-Fekete started her volleyball career with Nyíregyházi Spartacus, playing for the team from 1968 to 1970. In early 1971 when she was 16-years-old she was signed by Újpest Dózsa and would remain with the team throughout her career in Hungary. Just a year after playing for Újpest Dózsa Csapó-Fekete made her début for the Hungarian national team.

At the European Volleyball Championships Csapó-Fekete won a silver medal with the Hungarian team at the 1975 tournament in Yugoslavia. Along with her silver medal she also won three bronze medals at the championships (1977, 1981, and 1983). Csapó-Fekete competed at the 1976 Montréal Olympics and the 1980 Moskva Olympics where the Hungarian team finished in fourth place each time.

With Újpest Dózsa Csapó-Fekete won the Hungarian Cup in 1974, 1975, and 1984, before she went to play for TG Viktoria Augsburg in West Germany. Her success continued with Viktoria Augsburg where she won the West German Championship and Cup in the 1985 season. In 1986 Csapó-Fekete retired as a player but continued to coach for the Bavarian Volleyball Association until 2020.
