María Cervera, known in sports as “La Gata,” competed for the Peruvian volleyball team at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. She also won a silver medal at the 1975 Pan American Games. Cervera’s sister, Luisa Cervera was a volleyballer who competed at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. María Cervera was part of the golden age of Peruvian women’s volleyball that led to Peru having one of the top women’s teams in the 1980s.
