Biography

During the 1960s volleyball player Nicolae Bărbuță achieved success with Rapid București and the Romanian national team. Bărbuță was a two-time winner of the Champions Cup with Rapid București, winning in 1963 and 1965. Between his two domestic titles he was also part of the Romanian squad that finished fourth at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. At international tournaments he won bronze at the 1962 World Championships, followed by gold at the 1963 European Championships, with the latter competition taking place in Romania. In 1966 he was part of the Romanian team that won silver at the World Championships, finishing just one point behind Czechoslovakia. Bărbuță finished his career as a player and coach in Belgium.
