Stan Hammond played water polo for the Dolphins Water Polo Club from the 1950s and later became a life member of the club. He was a well-known coach and administrator of the sport. Hammond was President of Western Australia Water Polo in 1976-78, secretary in 1988-92, and had three terms as a vice-president. He was made a Life Member of Western Australia Water Polo in 1976 and twice was given the Frank Beaurepaire Memorial Trophy for his services to the sport. With the Dolphins he won Premiership titles in 1963-64, 1966, and 1970, and was on the state team from 1961-70. He coached the Western Australian women’s team for many years, winning a national crown in 1977, and coaching them at a demonstration tournament at the 1978 FINA World Championships. In business, Hammond became a wealthy man after starting out as a plumber, before becoming involved as an importer of metal products from India.
