Before the outbreak of World War II, Reg Potter played for the Avondale Club and represented the Southern Counties against England in both 1938 and 1939. Upon moving to the Otter Club, he won his first international cap and in April 1948 was a member of the initial Great Britain squad assembled for the London Olympics. Another member of that squad was Otter club-mate, goalkeeper Roddy Haswell, who also happened to be Potter’s boss at work.
