Goalkeeper Billy Quick was second choice to Les Ablett at the 1928 Olympics and appeared in just one game, the 8-1 defeat by France in the third-place tournament. The match was notable for being the final appearance, after five Olympic water polo tournaments, of Quick’s fellow Welshman Paul Radmilovic. Quick was captain of the Swansea Swimming Club for more than 30 years since being appointed in 1926. He also had the honour of captaining Wales after World War II. Under Quick’s captaincy, Swansea were the National Water Polo champions five years in succession 1930-34. After his playing days, he turned to coaching and served on the committee of the Glamorgan County ASA, and in 1950 was appointed to the committee of the newly-formed West Wales ASA.
