Water polo player Ingo Borgmann represented West Germany at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and re-unified Germany at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Games. In 1988 the team finished fourth, losing the bronze medal match 14-13 against the Soviet Union. In 1992 they were seventh and in 1996 they placed ninth. In total, Borgmann won 75 international caps.
In 1988 Borgmann was the first goalie named Water Polo Player of the Year in Germany. At the 1987 European Championships he was a member of the team that finished fourth. Nationally, he played with ASC Duisburg, helping them to win the German Cup in 1989. He later married swimmer Britta Dahm, but they subsequently divorced. Borgmann studied medicine and became a surgeon.
