Water polo player Dirk Jacoby represented West Germany at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The team finished fourth, losing the bronze medal match 14-13 against the Soviet Union. In 1989, Jacoby was on the squad that won the gold medal at the European Championships.
Nationally, Jacoby played with ASC Duisburg, helping them to win the German Cup in 1989. He later opened an office at Kamen working as a tax advisor and accountant.
