Frank Otto

Water polo player Frank Otto represented West Germany at the 1984 Los Angeles and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1984 the team won the bronze medal and in 1988 finished fourth after losing the bronze medal match 14-13 against the Soviet Union. In 1992, at his third Olympics in Barcelona and now representing re-unified Germany, the team disappointed and placed seventh. In 1985 he won a bronze medal at the European Championships and also won the World Cup. In 1981 and 1989, he won the European titles. Otto won a total of 167 international caps.

Otto played with Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 until 1984, and in 1982 helped them win the European Champions Cup. He also won six national titles from 1979-84 and five German Cups with Spandau. Otto was also the Bundesliga’s top scorer in all of his six seasons in Berlin. Otto then became the first German water polo player to move to Italy and played with Rari Nantes Camogli. After three seasons, he returned to Germany and joined SV Cannstatt. From 1994-99 he was their president. Otto later became responsible for commercial vehicle sales at Daimler-Benz.
