After representing Japan in water polo at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Takimi Wakayama graduated from Waseda University in the following year and married his wife Miyoko. Less than a year later, he was enlisted and completed an officer training program. Subsequently, he followed his regiment to the China theater. In 1941, he died of typhoid fever in a field hospital.
