Biography

Dutch water polo player Henk Hermsen was a goalkeeper for the national team during the 1950s and 1960s. Hermsen began his career for the De Robben team as a junior player where he won multiple titles, including the club’s first national title in 1960. He was soon called up to the Dutch national side, playing in multiple matches against Eastern Bloc countries.

Hermsen was part of the Dutch team that finished in eighth place at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He only played in one match for the Netherlands, however, when they lost 6–5 to the Unified Team of Germany in the final match of the classification round. Four years later Hermsen played in all seven matches for the Netherlands at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, where once again they finished in eighth place.

After his playing career Hermsen worked as a coach for De Robben. His brothers André and Wim both played water polo for the Netherlands at the Olympics.
