Biography

During the 1960s and 1970s Dutch water polo player Hans Hoogveld represented the Neptunus club, winning the Dutch cup final with the team in 1970. His talent was spotted at a young age, with Hoogveld playing in his first youth international match in August 1965 against Belgium. A year later he made his full international début in a match against Germany. By 1968 he had been selected to represent the Netherlands at the Mexico City Olympics, playing in nine matches, scoring five goals. He returned to the Olympics for the 1972 München Games where he scored a goal in their 4–2 win against Australia in the group stage. Hoogveld retired from the sport shortly after the München Olympics to start a family.
