Biography

Austrian weightlifter Franz Hölbl represented his country at the 1952 Helsinki and 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He placed eighth and seventh respectively in the heavyweight. At the 1954 World Championships, Hölbl won the bronze medal.

At European Championships Hölbl won the gold medal in 1954 and added a silver in 1952 and bronzes in 1953, 1955, and 1956. Domestically, Hölbl won seven national titles in 1949, 1952-54, and 1956-58.
