Georges De Proft was an active member of the Antwerpen Verenigde Krachtmeters club in the 1910s and 1920s. Though he also competed in boxing and wrestling, it was in weightlifting which he saw the most success, capturing the national title in the heavyweight class in 1923, a regional (Midden-België) title in 1920, and finishing in the runner-up position of the middleweight competition in 1920. He was one of seven Belgian weightlifters that were selected to compete at the Olympic Games held in Antwerpen in 1920, though he did not place in the middleweight competition after not completing the clean & jerk portion.
