Biography

Between 1956 and 1964, Roger Gerber won eight French titles as a lightweight weightlifter and set 39 national records. Internationally, he represented his country at two editions of the Olympic Games, placing 15th in 1956 and 11th in 1960. In-between, he had his greatest success with the national team at the 1959 Mediterranean Games, where he won silver. After his retirement from active competition in 1966, he trained to be a coach and served as France’s national team leader from 1969 through 1975 and its technical director from 1975 through 1985. He also engaged roles in global weightlifting as a member of the International Technical Commission from 1980 through 1988 and protocol head of the International Weightlifting Federation from 1984 through 1988.
